When Microsoft acquired EA in 2013, the company’s goal was to take a lead in the gaming business.
Since then, it has built up its own gaming studios and franchises, as well as expanded into mobile, cloud, and entertainment.
With a $7.2 billion valuation and billions of dollars in revenue, it’s a huge opportunity for the company to grow and thrive.
The company has taken a number of steps in the past year to capitalize on the opportunity.
In July, it bought an equity stake in Activision Blizzard, the largest video game publisher in the world.
That same month, it announced plans to expand into other markets, including the Philippines, India, and Brazil.
Microsoft is also moving toward a more integrated gaming business, with the goal of building games that work across all platforms, from PC to mobile to console.
This week, Microsoft also unveiled a partnership with the gaming giant, which will enable Xbox Live Arcade, Xbox Live Gold, and other services to work on its platforms.
These are all major steps for Microsoft to take in the years ahead, but it’s unclear what will come next.
Microsoft hasn’t released many details about what this partnership will entail, but Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has promised to give an update on the partnership “very soon.”
For now, though, there’s no telling what Microsoft plans to do with its gaming assets.
“Our games have been a huge part of our strategy for the past several years,” Nadellas Microsoft chief marketing officer, Andrew Thaler, told The Verge.
“We think this partnership with Activision and the gaming industry is really going to help to support us in that, which is why we’re really excited about it.”
Microsoft has spent the past few years focusing on its gaming business by hiring top talent, and now the company is finally looking to capitalize.
This partnership with EA is a great example of how Microsoft is going to continue to leverage its gaming interests for the long term, as Nadelly told The Observer.
“It’s very exciting to see the relationship we’re building with Activision, because we’ve been very active in helping them grow their games and to develop new experiences that will be available to them,” he said.
“So it’s very, very exciting.
It’s a very exciting partnership for us to be a part of.
And I think we’re very excited about the future of the Xbox.”
